Funny you should ask…

Who are the GoneGirls?

Kate & Paula in DC and Sarah in Richmond. We wish we were still girls! Selling furniture started as a fun hobby, helping friends. Friends & family encouraged us to turn our passion project into a business and it hasn’t slowed down since.  With our kids needing less homework and driving help, we were left with more time to discover our entrepreneurial sides. By creating GoneGirl LLC, we “girls” take the hassle out of selling and buying previously owned furniture and have met hundreds of amazing people and their pets along the way.  We are beyond thrilled that our hustle has turned into a niche business---- and not just because we now have a banker named Marilyn Monroe.  True!

Where do you find your items?

Local homes.   We take appointments with interested sellers in our areas who want to rehome furniture items that no longer serve them but may be perfect for others.   It’s the sustainable way to improve your house!

Interior Designers.   Sometimes custom furniture pieces don’t work out the way designers and clients expect, or the designers have showroom samples that need to be switched out.  Presently, GoneGirl works with over a dozen designers helping them and their clients make way for new.

Can I see the item in person before purchasing?

Of course!  We strongly encourage it, but if you are unable to, please know we are honest and transparent about condition and any product issues.   We curate each piece and do not list items we would not feel comfortable recommending.

How do I receive my item(s) after purchase?

LOCAL: . Once a purchase is made, we will email you and start the pick up plan. Some items may be “porch pick ups” depending on size, piece and location. You are welcome to pick up the item yourself or use a mover. We are able to provide many affordable and reliable mover names and numbers when requested. Buyers pay movers directly——we do not provide quotes nor collect payment. Of course we will meet the mover of your choice as well.

UNLESS MARKED RICHMOND, items are in the greater DC area. We have frequent trucks up and down 95 with reliable and affordable movers! And if you’ve ever done that drive you know how valuable that is. Email us at orders@gonegirlhome.com to determine timing and cost.

OUT OF STATE: Once purchase is made, we will email you and start the pick up plan. If an item fits in a box and can be shipped, we will provide a shipping quote.

For larger items:

Over the past 5 years we are fortunate to have formed many excellent relationships with movers all across the US. A little black book of movers, if you will. Based on your location, we can provide names and contact information. ALL PAYMENT goes to and through mover for transportation. We do not take a portion NOR do we manage payment between buyer and transporter.

Why GoneGirl versus consignment stores?

Ease for seller!  No driving furniture to consignment stores which may not accept the piece(s) and usually take a higher percentage of sales.   GoneGirl works with you to determine a price that makes sense for both buyers and sellers.

Can you store my items pending sale?

Sadly no; our families would disown us.    Items remain in sellers’ homes until a buyer is found.   If time becomes important to empty a space, we encourage a small price reduction or if it makes financial sense, a storage unit.  We will show and sell items from nearby storage facilities.

How do you determine price?

When pricing items we use multiple factors beyond the obvious two—brand and condition.  We also factor in seller’s urgency, current popularity in resale market (which we know from having sold hundreds of items) as well as competitive big brand knock offs.    We recommend a starting price, but seller gets final approval.

Please note we do not accept lower offers on pieces without getting approval from seller first.  All full ask offers are accepted.

How fast will my items sell?

Working together, GoneGirl and seller determine the price based on how quickly the item needs to be Gone.   While we can’t control the timeline, we can influence it with strategic pricing.

Do you accept returns?

Items are not returnable.   Once item is removed from seller’s home, it is yours.  However, if for some unexpected reason it just doesn’t work, we know some wonderful ladies you can call to help you sell it.

Are there items you don’t sell?

We cannot legally sell cribs and we do not sell collectibles, jewelry, china or silver.   We specialize in selling furniture pieces and home decor items—we are not staffed to run estate sales.

What if I change my mind about selling after I list with you?

When you consign with GoneGirl, you are agreeing that the item is available for us to sell and to show to interested parties.  If for some reason the item is no longer to be sold by us, PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP so we can delist it before someone falls in love and wants to purchase it.  We don’t want to promote and market unavailable pieces.

How do sellers get paid?

Buyers pay us and we pay sellers the Friday following the pick up of item.  You can be sent money electronically or via check.  Just look for the orange envelope in the mail!

I live in Utah, but I MUST have one of your pieces.  What do I do?

GoneGirl does not arrange shipping but we are happy to meet any shipper or mover you choose to help make your dreams come true.  We’ve facilitated dozens of out of town sales and have happy buyers all over the country.

I live in Utah, and I need you to sell my coffee table.  Can you help?

GoneGirl works best when we keep our selling radius tight.  Right now, we work in the Richmond metro area and the DC Metro area.   Even if your coffee table is museum quality, if we can’t see it and show it, we can’t sell it.

How do I know if I should sell my pieces or donate them?

GoneGirl gives back.  Certain furniture items are best suited for resale and others are better for donation.   Not only will we help you decide if your pieces are good candidates for the resale market, we will help you find donation sites for those that are not sellable but still in “dignity condition.”  We have some favorite donations sites: A Wider Circle; Habitat for Humanity; KindWorks in the DC area and Amvets or Diversity Thrift in Richmond.     Our goal is to repurpose furniture the best way we can.
