The Ottoman Empire

Starting and running your own business is often compared to drinking from a firehose. We see some truth in that, but we find our experience to be more like a waterslide. Colorful with twists, turns, hard to slow down, but so much fun we wouldn't change it. In fact, we've added slides in Richmond and Nashville since our 2017 launch in the DC area.

We're Paula and Kate in DC, with teams in Richmond (Sarah) and Nashville (Carlisle and Collins). For eight years, we've been helping people sell furniture they no longer need and find pieces they do. We work with homeowners downsizing, interior designers switching out samples, and anyone who wants their furniture to find a better home than the landfill.

Unlike traditional consignment stores, we come to you. We photograph, measure, price, list, show, and coordinate pickup. Items stay in your home until they sell. We pay you (in an orange envelope) following pick up.  Simple.

We've talked for years about starting a blog, mostly so we could use the name Ottoman Empire. Naturally. Finally in 2026, almost 8 years after the first item sold, we are launching. Look to this space for highlighted pieces, new arrivals, trends we are seeing in our orange world, and for sure, cute pictures of clients' pets.
